Israeli Interceptor Missile Explodes Over Southern Lebanon
The explosion occurred in Khiam, within the Marjayoun district, according to reports from Lebanese state media. No further information was immediately available regarding the cause of the explosion, possible damage or any casualties.
Around the same time, the Israeli army announced that it had fired an interceptor toward a “suspicious aerial target” detected in an area of southern Lebanon where Israeli forces were operating.
The military said the circumstances surrounding the incident were still being examined. It added that no warning sirens had been activated, in line with its established alert procedures.
The incident comes as tensions persist in southern Lebanon despite ongoing diplomatic efforts to address security concerns along the border. Lebanon and Israel have been participating in US-led negotiations since March, with discussions focused on security arrangements and ending the Israeli occupation of Lebanese territory.
Israeli forces have continued conducting strikes in southern Lebanon during the negotiations, while Lebanese authorities have repeatedly called for an end to the attacks and the withdrawal of Israeli troops from Lebanese territory.
