EU’s Kallas Calls for Palestinian-Led Path to Middle East Stability
Speaking ahead of an EU foreign ministers’ meeting in Luxembourg, she said recent international diplomatic efforts demonstrated broad support for strengthening Palestinian governance structures, referring to gatherings such as the Global Alliance for the Two-State Solution and the Ad Hoc Liaison Committee.
Kallas noted that more than 60 countries participated in discussions aimed at supporting Palestine, adding that there is widespread backing for a process led by Palestinians themselves to ensure regional stability, according to her remarks.
EU foreign ministers are meeting to address rising tensions across several regions, including the ongoing war in Ukraine and developments in the Middle East.
The agenda also includes discussions on Lebanon, where the country’s prime minister is expected to brief officials on talks with Israel and the internal situation. Concerns were also raised about the future of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), whose mandate is due to expire later this year.
On Iran, Kallas described the current ceasefire as highly fragile and emphasized the importance of continuing diplomatic efforts to prevent further escalation in the region.
