Belgian Foreign Minister Urges Stronger EU Action Over Israel’s Conduct
Maxime Prevot made the remarks during a statement at the European Convention Center Luxembourg, where he said Israel’s response in the Middle East was “disproportionate and indiscriminate,” according to his comments.
He criticized the current situation and called for a firmer European approach, arguing that the EU should reconsider its position and potentially take stronger action in response to ongoing developments.
Beyond the Middle East, Prevot also reaffirmed Ukraine as a key international priority and announced additional funding of €100 million (around $108 million) for the Pearl program. He also urged continued EU attention to developments in Belarus.
The Belgian minister expressed hope that recent political shifts in Hungary could help speed up European decisions on financial assistance mechanisms for Ukraine as well as sanctions-related measures.
He further stressed that humanitarian crises, including the situation in Sudan, should remain high on the EU agenda, describing it as one of the most serious ongoing emergencies.
Prevot also questioned whether the EU’s current approach of maintaining neutrality between conflicting parties in certain situations remains effective, suggesting that stronger collective action may be required, including the use of sanctions.
