US Extends Iran Truce as Second Round of Talks Planned in Islamabad
In a post on Truth Social, Trump said the decision followed a request from Asim Munir and Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who reportedly asked the US to delay any renewed military action while Iranian leadership works on a joint proposal.
"I have therefore directed our Military to continue the Blockade and, in all other respects, remain ready and able, and will therefore extend the Ceasefire until such time as their proposal is submitted, and discussions are concluded, one way or the other," he said.
Reports also indicate that Trump described Iran’s leadership as being “seriously fractured.”
The announcement comes as preparations continue for a second round of US-Iran negotiations in Islamabad. A US delegation led by Vice President JD Vance had been expected to travel for face-to-face talks, though the visit was reportedly delayed due to additional meetings in Washington.
The planned discussions follow an earlier round of engagement in Pakistan earlier this month, which ended without any agreement between the two sides.
The current ceasefire, initially announced earlier in the month, was set to expire on Wednesday but will now remain in effect pending further negotiations.
