Rights Groups Report Sharp Rise in Civilian Deaths

(MENAFN) Nearly 1,500 civilians have been killed over the course of a month-long US-Israeli military campaign in Iran, based on findings released Friday by a human rights monitoring organization, according to reports.

The group documented at least 1,443 civilian fatalities resulting from airstrikes carried out between Feb. 28 and March 23. Among those killed were at least 217 children, highlighting the heavy toll on non-combatants.

Data from the organization identified March 9 as the deadliest day within the reporting period, with approximately 252 civilians killed during a large-scale wave of nearly 400 strikes across multiple areas in Iran.

Separately, another monitoring group reported more than 130 cases of civilian injuries linked to the air campaign, "including attacks on healthcare, education facilities, and residential areas."

According to the findings, a significant portion of the strikes—around 37%—occurred in densely populated parts of Tehran. The damage assessment included 60 hospitals or medical facilities, 44 schools, and 129 residential buildings. In addition, official figures indicate that more than 16,000 homes have sustained damage.

The report also pointed to 543 strikes hitting dual-use infrastructure, "including energy and transport systems essential to civilian life."

Beyond casualties and physical destruction, the data suggest a major humanitarian impact, with approximately 3.2 million people forced to flee their homes, based on figures cited from international sources.
