US Inflation Holds Steady at 2.4 Percent
Data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics showed that the monthly inflation rate climbed to 0.3%, up from January’s 0.2%, matching analysts’ expectations.
On a yearly basis, "food prices rose 3.1%", while "energy prices increased 0.5%".
Meanwhile, core inflation, which omits the more unpredictable costs of food and energy, also moderated, registering a 2.5% rise over the past 12 months.
When compared with January, "shelter prices rose 0.2% in February", "food prices increased 0.4%", and "energy prices were up 0.5%".
For context, the consumer price index had been 2.7% in December and November, and reached 3% in September.
