EU probs AI chatbot Grok over alleged sexual content involving minors

(MENAFN) The European Commission announced Monday that it is taking a “very serious” look at X’s AI chatbot Grok after reports emerged that it produced sexually explicit content involving minors.

The Commission described the reported outputs as “appalling” and “disgusting.”

“I can confirm from this podium that the Commission is also very seriously looking into this matter,” EU Commission spokesperson Thomas Regnier said during a midday press briefing.

Regnier noted that Grok now features a “spicy mode” that generates explicit sexual content, including images with childlike characteristics. He emphasized: “This is not spicy, this is illegal. This is appalling, disgusting. This is how we see it, and this has no place in Europe.”

The spokesperson added that the Commission is closely monitoring X’s compliance with the EU Digital Services Act (DSA).

Regnier referenced reports from France, where the Paris prosecutor’s office launched a preliminary investigation into Grok over claims it produced sexually explicit deepfake images of minors. He warned: “I think X is very well aware that we are very serious about DSA enforcement. They will remember the fine that they have received from us back in December.

So we encourage all companies to be compliant, because the Commission is serious about enforcement.”
