U.S., Qatar Approach Finalizing Defense Cooperation Agreement
Before leaving Tel Aviv en route to Doha, Rubio told reporters, “We have a close partnership with the Qataris,” adding, “In fact, we have an enhanced defense cooperation agreement, which we've been working on, and we're on the verge of finalizing.”
Regarding Qatar’s involvement in brokering a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas in Gaza, Rubio emphasized, “we're going to ask Qatar to continue to do what they've done.”
These comments came shortly after an emergency Arab-Islamic summit convened in Doha condemned last week’s Israeli strike on Hamas negotiators within the Qatari capital, affirming strong solidarity with Qatar.
