US Senator wants US to keep aiding Israel’s genocide on Gaza
Speaking at a major Republican fundraiser in South Carolina over the weekend — an appearance later shared on social media — Graham praised Israel for allegedly refraining from committing “genocide” in Gaza. “Israel is our friend. They are the most reliable friend we have in the Middle East. They are a democracy, surrounded by people who would cut their throats if they could,” he said, adding that any weakening of support would bring retribution from God.
His comments came soon after Israel unveiled plans to occupy Gaza City, one of the few parts of the enclave not under its control. Framed by Israeli officials as a pathway to “concluding the war” with Hamas, which has dragged on for nearly two years, the plan has drawn strong condemnation from numerous governments and international bodies. The US, however, has offered little reaction. Prior to the announcement, US President Donald Trump said it was “pretty much up to Israel” whether to seize the city.
Graham, a staunch supporter of Israel, has previously called for Gaza’s full occupation, arguing it is the only way to end the conflict to Israel’s satisfaction. “They’re going to do in Gaza what we did in Tokyo and Berlin: take the place by force and start over again,” he said in late July, adding that the US also believes there is no realistic way “to negotiate an end of this war.”
