Israel Dreads US May Accept Limited Iran Deal

(MENAFN) Israel is concerned that US President Donald Trump may pursue a narrow agreement with Iran that leaves the most consequential aspects of Tehran's nuclear program unresolved, an Israeli newspaper reported Saturday, citing unnamed Israeli sources.

According to the newspaper, Israeli anxieties center on the possibility that Washington could accept a deal that avoids core issues — including the removal of Tehran's enriched uranium stockpile, a prohibition on future enrichment and Iran's ballistic missile capabilities.

The Israeli security establishment reportedly believes Iran is "stalling" US negotiators, while the prospects of reaching broader nuclear understandings remain limited.

The report surfaced as mounting signals indicated Washington and Tehran are approaching a memorandum of understanding to end hostilities, with remaining gaps focused primarily on enriched uranium and final implementation mechanisms.

Hebrew-language media reported late Saturday that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu would convene an emergency security meeting with coalition leaders as Israeli attention intensified on the direction of US-Iran contacts.

Earlier Saturday, Trump said a deal with Iran had been "largely negotiated," while acknowledging that final details remained under review.
