Ukraine Expands Sanctions on Russian Military Personnel, Shipping Network
(MENAFN) Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has approved new sanctions targeting Russian military figures and a group of civilian merchant vessels allegedly involved in supporting Moscow’s war operations.
According to reports, the first sanctions package includes 127 Russian individuals said to be connected to missile attacks on Ukraine, including strikes on civilian infrastructure and critical facilities.
The measures reportedly focus on commanders overseeing long-range aviation as well as missile and artillery units within Russia’s ground forces.
A second sanctions package targets 29 civilian cargo ships alleged to have been used in transporting goods supporting Russia’s military operations. Reports noted that most of these vessels are already under restrictions imposed by the United States, the European Union, and the United Kingdom.
“One of today's packages highlights the arms supply channels for the Russian army, let's see which ports will now accept these ships," said Vladyslav Vlasyuk, a Ukrainian presidential adviser responsible for sanctions policy.
"The other one is personally targeting those who give orders and carry out missile terror against Ukrainian cities. It's about increasing the price of aggression for Russia, complicating its military operations, and forming an inevitable responsibility for strikes on civilians and infrastructure," he added.
According to reports, Russia has not yet issued a response regarding the latest sanctions measures.
